Assessment

Children’s attainment and progress are assessed by their teachers continually throughout the school year.  Children are challenged and supported appropriately depending upon their next steps in learning.

In Reception year, an entry ‘baseline’  assessment will be carried out within the first few weeks of school.  At the end of YR, children’s attainment is measured against the Early Learning Goals—the age related expectation for the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

In Summer term of Year 1, children undertake the Phonics Screening Check and are also assessed against the end of Y1 Age Related Expectations of the National Curriculum.

In Summer term of Year 4, children undertake the Multiplication Tables Check. Results of this are reported to parents as well as informing interventions and support for children who need it.

In Summer term of Year 6, children undertake Standardised Attainment Tests (SATs) in reading; maths; and grammar, punctuation and spelling. Children's writing is assessed by teachers based on their attainment through the year. The results of these assessments are shared with parents and is available to a child's secondary school.
